Dave Jackson R.I.P.

Print PDF

Sadly Dave Jackson, previous District Commissioner, passed away this morning. Many of you will know of Dave's three and a half year battle with cancer, although perhaps only more recently since he lost the use of his legs as the cancer spread to his spine. The end was mercifully short and Dave died at home with his family.

I have no doubt that without his positive attitude Dave would not have lasted anywhere near so long, and I shall always remember this of him.

Further details will follow in due course.

District Cub Quiz

On Saturday 28th November eight teams of four Cubs, from seven Packs, entered the annual quiz. This year the quiz was based on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, allowing the whole event to take place on one evening. There were four rounds, with each team member playing one round, until they got an answer wrong!

To explain the play there was a demonstration round with the leaders competing. This allowed the Cubs to see the different lifelines - 50:50, a reduction of possible answers, Phone a Friend, help from one of their team members and Ask the Audience, collaboration with the rest of their team and a leader.

The first game played out very well, with one Cub from 30th Eagles getting to the £1000,000! This set them up well for the following rounds. Over the next three rounds no other Cubs reached the fifteenth question, but a few managed to gain £32,000. This led to the following final scores:

30th Brighton Eagles 1001000
7th Brighton 34000
6th Brighton 33000
42nd Brighton Seeone 33000
30th Brighton Tigers A 2000
14th Brighton 1000
30th Brighton Tigers B 1000
31st Brighton 0

So 30th Brighton Eagles won the team trophy, with Benjamin Cook taking home the Bright Spark trophy for the best score for his £1000,000 round.

Well done to all the Cubs (and Leaders) who took part. We're sorting out a date for next year and hope that more Packs will enter.

Clever Clogs Quiz

Fellowship members and friends made up 5 teams for this year's clever clogs quiz, which was held at the Mile Oak Pub. The questions ranged from general knowledge to history and many more.

Each team had a joker that they could play in whatever round that they liked, which would double the points. At the end of evening the winners, for the second year running, were Dave, Grant and Mike.

Well done to all the teams.

8 packs entered the Cub Scout Challenge and on a very windy day met at Parkwood.

There were 9 challenges for the cubs to try, ranging from tent pitching to ten pin bowling, from isotopes to little puzzles. Working as a team, their aim was to gain as many points as they could.

The final result was:

1st - 42nd M - 314 pts

2nd - 15th - 308 pts

3rd - 30th E - 299 pts

4th - 42nd S - 289 pts

6th - 19th - 255 pts

Well done to all the cubsalt

Fellowship Skittles evening

Print PDF

On Wednesday 14th Oct, a group of us ventured out for the evening to The Bull Inn at Shermanbury (Henfield border).

On arrival we were put into two teams, mixed and matched.  Elsie had one and I had the other. Skittles was the game. Everyone played; some were better than others, but we all enjoyed ourselves. Halfway through the evening we were served a buffet which consisted of Pizzas of various types and salad.

By the end of the evening we had all played eight times, and obviously it was getting late and past Fred South’s bedtime!

The winning team was Elsie’s. But Fred did do the scoring and he was on that team?

A fun evening was had by all and perhaps we will do it all again next year ?

Thanks to Elsie for organising and booking the activity, and thank you to everyone who came along.

Next night out ... Clever Clogs Quiz at Mile Oak Inn in Portslade on Wednesday 18th November starting at 7.30pm. See you all there hopefully.
