We have just been to the Cubbly Bug Ball at Broadstone Warren with our group (15th Brighton). We were very excited when we arrived at the car park with our big bags and all our friends from our group. The disco ended at past ten o’clock then we had a lovely hot chocolate and biscuit that kept us warm and cosy. Then we snuggled up into our sleeping bags for the night.

The next day we had a huge breakfast then after we washed up we got ready to do the activities. We both did activities such as pot holing (very exciting), high ropes (fun but scary) and air rifle shooting (good to try). There was loads more fun activities that we did all day but it would take too long to type them all.
On Saturday night we went to the funniest circus ever, the clowns were ever so funny. There was a magic show and an amazing lady who was fabulous at hula-hooping. After that we sang all the way back to the camp-site then we sang songs round the camp fire, and then we had hot chocolate with biscuits and went to bed.
We spent Sunday morning gobbling up our breakfast, washed up then did even more activities. After lunch it was time to pack our bags ready to go home and put down the tents. Then we ran to the car parks and what did we find….our parents waiting to take us home!
We had the best time anybody could ever have and can’t wait until next time. Thank-you to all the grownups and leaders looking after us.

The Aviation badge course was held at Broadstone Warren over the weekend of 8th - 10th May.

There were around 70 Scouts on camp with troops represented from East Sussex, Surrey and Croydon. There were 3 of us from 6th Brighton attending the course.

The course had some tests and lectures, but there were many highs on camp one of these was a visit to Shoreham Airport we got to go in the Danger Zone where we saw two helicopters and one aeroplane take off. We all got to go on the flight simulator which I nearly crashed the system for.  We also had to learn the phonetic alphabet I found this pretty easy.

Overland Hike 2009 PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday 28th March, four Scouts from 29th Brighton Scout Troop met over at East Dean in West Sussex at 7am for the start of the Overland Competition. It was the first time in 10 years that 29th Brighton had entered a team and the Scouts had been training hard since the beginning of January.

The Kit Check went smoothly and the team were soon underway. They hiked and navigated well and attempted all the checkpoint activities before arriving at the campsite for the night. After pitching their tent and cooking and eating their evening meal, they settled down for a good nights’ sleep as the temperature began to drop.

Having endured temperatures of minus seven during the night, the team were up early, shaking the ice off their tent and preparing for the day’s hiking. They hiked well again and walked into the finish still going strong.

After eating their meal at the finish and having had a rest, the team were ready to hear the results. The team’s aim was to complete the hike in the time allowed, so they were amazed to find they had finished in 4th place!

Many congratulations to the team on a fantastic result!
