Could this be the oldest photo of Brighton Scouts?

Brendan Barber all the way from Perth in Western Australia has sent us this photo, hoping some of our members can shed some light on it's forgotten secrets.

Brendan writes:

It was found by my dad when he was finalising his uncle’s estate a few years back. The uncle was a bachelor who lived in Freshfield Road, Brighton all his life; he was our last living connection to Brighton. We seem to think the photo is in the period 1900 to 1915, simply going on the other belongings it was with. This could possibly indicate my great grandfather (Leslie Barber) or a great uncle (Frederick Griffiths) are in the group, however this is really only guessing. Frederick Griffiths was killed in action in France during World War One.

We think it must hold some family significance due to it being kept all this time and that someone did write the slogan on the top of the photo.

If you can help me with the secrets of the photo, such as when probably taken and/or names of people, that would be just wonderful. In any case I think you will find the photo to be interesting, especially with your hundred year celebrations coming up soon.

30th Brighton Sponsored Hike raises funds for much needed tentage.

Print PDF

On Saturday 10th May 2008 over 50 members of our Scout Group, including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Leaders and Parents, undertook a nine mile hike accross the Downs and raised a significant amount of money that will purchase a large mess tent for the group. The tent was needed due to the increase of numbers in the group over the last few years. The members of the group would like to thank those who raised the money and to those leaders and lay members who organised the event.
