It was dark and scary but I thought it was great, especially the mud.

It was scary and wet and I liked going through the tunnels.

Centenary Cub Camp

Print PDF

170 very active Cub Scouts attended the Centenary Cub Camp at Parkwood over the weekend. The management team promised good weather and so it was.

After flag break on Saturday morning 170 Cubs were invited to attempt to achieve 100 activities over the two days.

All packs bar one were represented and the cubs were asked to brave the assault course, get themselves out of the rope maze, play water hockey, dance the macaranas (and the boat song - oops upside your head) and then in true cub tradition dance the time warp. They made dough twists, fired air pressured rockets, saved the site from radio activity by putting the isotopes into their protective covering, they were forced to endure the stocks, they did the original grand howl, they played golf and hit the original tin can alley, talking of alley's the played marbles to original rules to name just a few activities. Each pack were themed to a famous Brightonian these included Max Miller, Rudyard Kipling, Magnus Volk, Martha Gunn and Norman Cook. Each pack had to make a banner to depict their choice and this competition was won by Rudyard Kipling also known as the 19th.

The traditional water fight took place in the afternoon and in the evening we were joined by the 35 strong D of E contingent from Twickenham at the camp fire where each group performed stunts and sang unusual camp fire songs. Father Abraham will never be the same again.

During the day we were visited by the High Sherriff of East Sussex who was massively impressed with what he saw, also the County Commissioner brought some pupils of Chailey Heritage to enjoy the afternoon, we let them loose in the caves and a thoroughly good time was had by all.

The sunday saw the annual tug of war contest which was eagerly contested by all teams eventually won by the Martha Gunn team of the 54th Brighton with the runner up trophy going to the Norman Cook team of the 30th Brighton.

My congratulations to the organising team and to all the leaders that took part in making this a fabulous weekend. I hope you all recover quickly.

Centenary 100's visit Thorpe Park

Print PDF

On the 10th May 15 Cub Scouts from four packs went to Thorpe Park.

Once we stepped off the coach our eyes popped in amazement. We rushed over the extended bridge with peaceful blue water.

The excitement started as we were queueing for "Depth Charge" it felt as if the sun opened up into our eyes.

As we made our way around we stopped off at "The Flying Fish" it was actually really good it was almost as much fun as cubs.

Following that Jack, Patch and Michelle went on "X No Way Out" all i can say is "it was awesome".

Penny and Dave (Leaders) say they went on "Stealth" - Jack and Patch are really angry about that.!!!!!

While this was happening the rest of the cubs went on the "Carousel" we were all so dizzy after that ride. Then we went on the "Jungle Safari" and we drove the cars.

We stopped for lunch - yum yum.

Once we were refilled we went onto "Loggers Leap" we were drenched, we felt wonderful.

Penny bought us all a refreshing ice cream cone at the same time some of us went on "Rocky Express". The onto "R'jmba Rapids" were some of us got very soggy. Our last ride was "Storm in a Teacup". We went to the gift shop before we stepped back on the coach and said our last farewells to Thorpe Park.

Thanks to all for a wonderful day out.

Deanna - May and Jack
