Great Camping – beyond the main field, within the woodland, are many lovely secluded individual campsites of various sizes. These areas allow for genuine back-to-basics camping, but with the advantage of water nearby and still being within easy access of the site's showers and toilets etc. Adventure course (assault course) – within our fenced activity area this features swings, ropes jumps, balance poles etc. The course is set up for timed individual runs or challenges between two teams in parallel. Without detracting too much from the fun and challenge we have laid bark chippings on sand under the higher elements, but it goes without saying that accidents could happen so all activity on the course must be properly supervised. The ‘bomb hole’ is our water feature, the depth of which varies by season. When full the level is between knee and waist depth and suitable for bridge building or mini-raft building activities. This is also situated within the fenced activity area and, like anything involving a body of water, is for properly supervised activities only. The caving complex (subject to additional charge) - this is both fun and a serious introduction to challenging experiences. The complex has two parts. The upper cave is accessible by everyone, including wheelchair users, but still represents a challenge in terms of access. The entrance is themed like WW1 trenches and the upper cave could have been used by Neanderthals as a home. The lower caves rise and fall, become steep and narrow leading through to pitch darkness. The experience is muddy! Use of the complex is for teams following basic rules. It’s great. Orienteering Course – there is an established course around the site with maps available from the warden. Weather station – for those using the Langton Chalet there is access to a weather station and other associated resources. Chapel – there is a lovely outdoor chapel on site for Scouts’ Own or just quiet thought. Camp-fire circle – the campfire circle is near the chapel and is available for groups or whole site entertainment. Pioneering poles – there is a selection of pioneering poles available on request. All activities are subject to availability – from time to time you might be unlucky and find them out of use. It is best therefore to plan ahead an let us know what you would like to do. Enjoy! |
